Note: If you are using a Chrome OS device, open an Incognito window to run this lab. Note: If you already have your own personal Google Cloud account or project, do not use it for this lab. Access to a standard internet browser (Chrome browser recommended). It does so by giving you new, temporary credentials that you use to sign in and access Google Cloud for the duration of the lab. This hands-on lab lets you do the lab activities yourself in a real cloud environment, not in a simulation or demo environment. The timer, which starts when you click Start Lab, shows how long Google Cloud resources will be made available to you. Labs are timed and you cannot pause them. Through this exercise, you will explore how to create a cost effective strategy for managing higher availability regional clusters. In addition to the type of infrastructure you’re using, the physical geographical location of that infrastructure also impacts cost. You will learn strategy to help maximize utilization (and avoid underutilization) of your valuable infrastructure resources through selecting properly shaped machine types for an example workload. This lab shows how optimization of your cluster's infrastructure can help save costs and lead to a more efficient architecture for your applications. The underlying infrastructure of a Google Kubernetes Engine cluster is made up of nodes which are individual Compute VM instances.
